SILFA Training Program: Empowering Farmers Through Knowledge and Innovation Overview The SILFA Training Program is a transformative initiative designed to equip farmers, graduates, and youth with modern agricultural knowledge and practical skills. Conducted by SILLAH Improves Local Farming (SILFA), the program focuses on enhancing productivity, sustainability, and resilience in agriculture, combining traditional practices with cutting-edge technologies. Through hands-on training, participants gain real-world experience in vegetable production, greenhouse management, and smart farming practices. This program is part of SILFA’s mission to combat underemployment and food insecurity in Sierra Leone by empowering the next generation of agricultural leaders. Who Can Join? College Students and Recent Graduates: Looking to build a career in agriculture. Smallholder Farmers: Interested in adopting modern farming methods. High School Dropouts and Youth: Seeking practical skills for sustainable livelihoods. Agriculture Enthusiasts: Ready to transform their passion for farming into a profession. What You’ll Learn Participants are trained in a variety of topics, including: Fundamentals of Plant Care: Learn about soil preparation, planting techniques, and crop management. Compost and Soil Health: Understand the importance of organic compost for sustainable farming. Pest and Disease Control: Gain knowledge of integrated pest management strategies to protect crops. Humidity and Irrigation Control: Explore smart irrigation techniques like drip systems to conserve water and improve yields. Farm Management and Planning: Develop skills in budgeting, resource allocation, and production planning.
